| Introduction
There are in the scientific literature, papers describing a measured association between antioxidants and particular degenerative disease states. On this page we will attempt to exemplify the evidence as it emerges. Cancer is a largely preventable disease. Roger Dobson writing in The Times lists; stop smoking cigarettes, avoid high radon levels in houses, always use protection when sunbathing, take regular exercise and eat a balanced diet as lifestyle issues that can be effective protection against cancer. At this site, the balanced diet is addressed. One immediate and simple way of increasing protection is to make sure you have at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day in your diet.

Prostate cancer - the balance between oxidative stress and antioxidant capacity Prostate cancer patients were found to have elevated levels of lipid peroxidation products such as nitric oxide and lower levels of antioxidant enzymes than the control group, causing an imbalance of the oxidative stress/antioxidant status. Arrhythmia-provoking factors and symptoms at the onset of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. In a survey of 100 randomly-selected atrial fibrillation patients, 34 reported that an arrhythmia triggering factor was alcohol, 26 in the form of red wine and spirits, and 16 as white wine. Could it be antioxidants rather than alcohol that are the antagonists? Going one step further; could it be the anthocyanins and proanthocyanins which are present in both red wines and spirits, but less abundant in white wines? Reference: A.
